Gabriela Rodriguez-Fuentes was selected for the UC MEXUS-CONACYT Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 to conduct research in the Department of Environmental Sciences at UC Riverside under the guidance of Daniel Schlenk, professor of aquatic ecotoxicology. Her research examined the study of enzymes involved in the metabolism of pesticides. She characterized muscle cholinesterases from two flatfish collected in Southern California for use as a biomarker in biomonitoring studies and collaborated in the study of enantioselective acetylcholinesterase inhibition of organophosphorous insecticides. Her work provides insight into the upregulation of flavin-containing monooxygenases (FMO) under hypersaline conditions to explain changes in pesticide toxicity. Currently, Rodriguez-Fuentes heads the Aquatic Ecotoxicology Lab at the Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán (CICY) in Quintana Roo, Mexico. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at (52) 998-211-3008 ext. 116.
